Believe your drive is failing or has serious issues. However, I always recommnend everyone do backups regardless of what's happening. If I understand you correctly, then yes, the Previous versions function will do what you want, but only if System Restore was enabled earlier for that drive. You cannot enable SR afterwards and get your data back (except for versions you create subsequent to enabling Previous Versions). Also, there must have been a Restore Point for the point in time for which you want to get the data back.MS also added a feature called File History Backup which overlaps with this, and I'm still trying to sort out the differences between the two. #1 Sneak1 Members 18 posts OFFLINE Local time:05:33 PM Posted 27 July 2019 - 10:14 AM So I recently had an external drive die on me due to a spill accident. So I wanted to check the health of the HDd on my desktop.(note the spill didnt touch the desktop)I went to google and got this page as one of he top pages. tried the "Windows CHKDSK Tool" method ( I should have went the crystaldiskinfo route looking back at it.)I unchecked the fix errors and bad sectors boxes and just clicked start to get a basic report of hard disk problems. It took a few minutes to finish then a message popped out saying it found some errors and they were moved to a folder called "found" and that could the files there. I noticed I had gained 5GB of hhd space. I thought it was nothing but then noticed some of my personal files like photos documents might be missing. Did it get to sent to that folder. How do I check. The message said it could be found in the "root". I looked around to see how I can access that folder to see what was sent there. I am running windows 7 32 bit. I tried click "organize"> "folder and search options"> click view >click "show hidden file ,folders, and drives",> unbox "hide protected operating system files". I went to C drive and dont see the "found" folder. I see a bunch of other greyed out folders. How to I get access to the "found" folder and how do I recover any files that I didn't intend to be removed? If there are jpeg, mp4, or pdf files there then they shouldn't be there and it did remove some of my personal files. Edited by Sneak1, 27 July 2019 - 10:23 AM. IOW, if you're going to attempt data recovery using one of the tools I suggested, do it as soon as possible, or don't usethe machine. And avoid writing files as much as possible. It's also a good idea to write any data files you recover to another drive, just in case. After you recover any data files you need, I suggest you run a full disk diagnostic on the drive, but let's focus on one thing at a time.
