The Oscars’ streaming debut was marred by a series of Hulu glitches, leaving thousands of film fans unable to watch Conan O’Brien’s comedic antics, a “Wicked” musical performance by stars Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande and even the awarding of the year’s biggest award. More than 33,000 users reported an inability to log on to Walt Disney Co.-owned Hulu as the 97th Academy Awards telecast was set to begin at 4 p.m. Sunday, according to Down Detector, which tracks app outages. For some, the log-in issues extended for more than half of the three-hour, 45-minute show. After the first problem was patched, thousands of others saw their streams abruptly cut off a few minutes before the final award of the night was announced by Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan. They missed out as “Anora,” the independent film and critics’ favorite, won best picture. The film’s director and screenwriter, Sean Baker, also made history, earning four Oscar statuettes for the same movie. Disney and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences had hyped the streaming debut, part of a concerted effort to revitalize the nearly century-old awards show by bringing in younger viewers. Los Angeles firefighters and first responders also took the stage at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood to represent the city’s recovery from the devastating January wildfires. “We experienced technical and live stream issues on Hulu which impacted some Oscars viewers,” Disney said Monday. “We apologize for the experience. A full replay of the event is available on Hulu and Hulu on Disney+.” Some users who tried to log in at the beginning of the telecast received an error message and were prompted to “please enter a valid email address” even though most had correctly entered the email associated with their accounts. Most Hulu users who had signed on before the 4 p.m. start time were treated to a smooth viewing experience, according to a person with knowledge of the technical issues who was unauthorized to speak publicly. However, a second snafu came a little after 7:30 p.m., in the gala’s homestretch. Disney attributed that problem to a “scheduling system” issue as the show extended beyond its allotted time. The Burbank entertainment giant’s explanations and apology failed to soothe fans who love participating in pop culture events in real time.“Why is there always problems during a high profile live event. I NEED HELP. What is going on?” wrote one user who goes by the handle Slothtrop Records on X.Disney offered frequent updates Sunday and Monday about its trouble-shooting efforts on social media. Still, hundreds of viewers excoriated Hulu’s faltering performance and signaled their disappointment. As streaming services have gotten further into the business of broadcasting live events, the technology’s technical limitations haveDownload Hulu Desktop by Hulu
Stream at a relatively low priceIn this era of technology, more and more people are ditching their cable subscriptions to more convenient online streaming. With this, they can watch thousands of movies, shows, and documentaries anywhere, anytime. And perhaps one of the front-runners when it comes to video streaming is Hulu. This multimedia app remains to be one of the best for live or on-demand television in the US and Japan. Co-owned by the Walt Disney Company and Comcast, this app focuses primarily on streaming new TV shows and its original content over movies and documentaries. And like other similar apps, it offers monthly subscription tiers to customize your viewing experience.Hulu pricingHulu is just one of the many streaming apps available nowadays. But the app differs from other well-known services, such as Netflix and Amazon Prime Video, in a way that it allows users earlier access to popular series from multiple traditional networks. With this, you typically only have to wait for days—sometimes just a day, even—to watch the latest episodes of your favorite TV shows.Another thing that sets Hulu apart from its competitors is its pricing plans. Over the years, there have been some changes to the service’s pricing. But rather than hiking up the price, the cheapest plan becomes even cheaper. Hulu’s basic plan is the cheapest among the popular services, and it even includes HD video support. However, it comes with a catch: commercials.Netflix and Amazon’s basic plans already remove the ads. But with Hulu, you need to upgrade your subscription to get nearly commercial-free viewing. Even if you opt for the pricier service, there are still a handful of shows which will have before-and-after commercials due to rights issues.Hulu is accessible on a wide number of platforms. Unfortunately, both the base plan and the commercial-free version are only limited to one device at a time. There is no way to add to that tally. If you want to bump the number to two simultaneous streams, you need to pay for the much pricier Hulu + Live TV.Hulu offeringHulu’s main draw for users is its TV offerings. The service partnered with four of the biggest networks in the US—namely ABC, CBS, NBC, and Fox—to provide its users access to some of the top shows the day after they premiere on TV. With this, the app has a deep catalog of some of the popular TV shows. In addition to major networks, Hulu’s library also includes shows from cable channels, such as FX, Bravo, Lifetime, and Comedy Central. However, they don’t typically give you the latest season of episodes. The service also offers content for younger audiences with its strong selection of kid’s programming, which includes some of Cartoon. Hulu is owned by Walt Disney Co. This French film stars Alban Lenoir as a special ops agent who's undercover with a criminal organization, there to take down the big boss. 2025-04-16By JOE REEDYAP Sports WriterStreaming service FuboTV has filed an antitrust lawsuit against ESPN, Fox, Warner Bros. Discovery and Hulu, which are planning to launch a sports-streaming venture in the fall. The lawsuit has been filed in the Southern District of New York. FuboTV, which focuses primarily on live sports, is seeking a jury trial. The Wall Street Journal was the first to report on the lawsuit.“Each of these companies has consistently engaged in anticompetitive practices that aim to monopolize the market, stifle any form of competition, create higher pricing for subscribers and cheat consumers from deserved choice,” David Gandler, Co-founder and CEO of FuboTV, said in a statement. “Simply put, this sports cartel blocked our playbook for many years and now they are effectively stealing it for themselves.”ESPN, Fox, Warner Bros. Discovery and Hulu declined to comment about the lawsuit.FuboTV says in its filing that it has tried for years to offer a sports-only streaming service but has been prevented from doing so because of ESPN. Fox and Warner Bros. Discovery has imposed bundling requirements on FuboTV which it says forces “Fubo to spend hundreds of millions of dollars to license and broadcast content that its customers do not want or need.”“Faced with the threat of disruptive competition from Fubo and other upstarts, Defendants have responded by locking arms (and locking others out) to steal Fubo’s core business idea — a sports-centric package of channels — while blocking Fubo from offering that same package,” the company said in its court filing.ESPN, Fox, Warner Bros. Discovery and Hulu announced their plans to offer a sports streaming service on Feb. 6. The three companies will each share one-third ownership in the joint venture. A name for the service and pricing will be announced at a later date.FuboTV not only wants the proposed joint
